A Good Dad

Mama Kat prompt for today: Share something you've learned from your husband about parenting. What makes him good at what he does?

The number one thing that makes my hubby a great dad is his selflessness.  Maybe some parents find playing with their 2 year old mentally stimulating, but to be honest, it is not always the most exciting thing.  Yes, it can be fun at times, but I think most parents would admit that playing with little kids can often be tedious.  Thus, after a long day at work, what a dad might like most is to come home and take a breather by being alone in his man-cave.  Do you know what my husband does?  He comes home and plays with Alexis while I cook dinner.  He puts aside his own self to get down on the floor with his daughter and make her happy.  This makes him a good dad.  This is my husband showing his little girl agape love, the love upheld in the Bible as the highest kind of love: "[Love] does not seek its own" (1 Corinthians 13:5).  Roger lays down his own life for his little girl.  What more could I ask for in a dad?

(If any of you were wondering, he also shows this at other times and in other ways, like putting up a full size tent in the backyard just to make her happy or leaving his own fun gaming to race around the house when Alexis asks to play.  When she asks, he plays.  I love my husband!)

Awww! Playing is one of the most important gifts we give our children. They so value our time! What a nice tribute!
